Rating
1 - Email builder
4.5/5 GetResponse makes use of a drag and drop editor which is easy to handle. Also nice is the way you can undo/redo actions with a revision history. Also, you can spam-test your emails, which is really cool!
4.0/5 ActiveCampaign's editor works pretty intuitively and has many features available. For instance, with ActiveCampaign you can reuse certain customizations (save them as blocks). Also, it is easy to see what changes people have made, listed in a orderly fashion.
2 - Email templates
3.0/5 With GetResponse you have a decent selection of different email templates. They do look a bit outdated though.
3.5/5 ActiveCampaign has a decent set of different email templates, but we hope for a bit more options in the future (you can get extra templates on the marketplace however). Their drag-and-drop visual editor is pretty easy to use and gives you freedom in what you want to create.
3 - Form builder
4.0/5 Setting up forms with GetResponse is done conveniently with their form builder. It is helpful that you can also create landings pages. The only downsides are that the form design options and the form display options (like pop ups etc) are a bit limited. But if you work with optin software or some of the popular pagebuilders for wordpress like Elementor and thrive, you won't have a problem here.
3.5/5 Active Campaign's visual form builder works well. Downside is that only the more expensive versions give you access to more form functionality and removing of branding.
4 - Automations
3.0/5 GetResponse is decent when it comes to setting up automations. GetResponse is equipped with a nice workflow builder in which all features are conveniently listed and can be applied with drag and drop. It is a little bit outdated though, because you have to leave to automation builder to create new emails (which disrupts your workflow) and deliverability leaves a lot to be desired.
5.0/5 With ActiveCampaign setting up automations is easy with their visual workflow builder. A great feature is the copying and pasting of automated sequences into your email service. Also, as no other tool, ActiveCampaign has set up an automations marketplace where other users can give away or sell their automations, and you can import them into your account with 1 click.
5 - Splittesting
5.0/5 Best A/B-testing of all tools out there. You can basically splittest everything from titles, to email content, and even complete automations! And you get detailed reportings.
3.0/5 The A/B-testing of GetResponse is decent and has the basic features readily available. You can test email content, and split-test individual emails inside automations. You can not splittest a complete automation or funnel however.
6 - List management & segmentation
4.0/5 The only downside of GetResponse tagging system is that tagging can not be done manually. Other than that, good segmentation and tagging system.
5.0/5 With ActiveCampagin it is easy to segment your contacts in a vast variety of different ways. You can target as specific as you want and send personalized content. You can use both lists & tags.
7 - Integrations
3.5/5 GetResponse integrates with almost every app (also integration with Zapier).
4.0/5 ActiveCampaign integrates with basically every app, (also Zapier integrations). So you should be able to connect with whatever app you like.
8 - Reporting
4.0/5 GetResponse does tracking and reporting well. It is slightly better than most tools out there, since it has some nice extra features. The best one is ROI tracking.
4.0/5 Active campain has thorough reporting with great visuals. They also offer goal tracking, which means you can track conversions within Activecampaign. This way, you can A/B-test about everything you want to (even your automations), which is awesome!
9 - Support & Community
3.0/5 Asking support through GetResponse is easy. There are many options: email, phone, live chat, and a lot of information elsewhere. They are usually very responsive and helpful, but sometimes not at all.
5.0/5 There is absolutely no shortage of information when it comes to using ActiveCampaign. Their website is basically a library of information guided with great video's. Their support is unparallelled. You have the option to use live chat or email. Both are very quick and comprehensive. The craziest part is that they will guide you with personalized video's!
10 - Ease of use
3.5/5 Sometimes a bit confusing, but in the end you'll manage.
3.5/5 You need a bit of time to get all of the available features under your control, but when you do, there's not much you can't do.
11 - Value for money
4.0/5 GetResponse offers really good value for money.
4.5/5 Great value for money considering all the stuff you get.

Overall rating
3.6/5 GetResponse is definitely one of the better tools we have reviewed. GetResponse scores really well on almost all features, however, it doesn't score the best in anything. So if you need the best of the best in a certain area, keep that in mind. However, If your email marketing need are not too advanced, you will probably be happy with this tool!
4.3/5 ActiveCampaign is definitely the most powerful tool out there. You can set up the most advanced automations, it has the best A/B-testing out there. And in our opinion, this are the most important features. In all other departments ActiveCampaign scores good well as well.
